SELINSGROVE — It’s been over two months since Katherine Blann was struck by a vehicle on Market Street in Selinsgrove.  Blann was critically injured in the accident and the driver fled the scene. Two towns getting new liquor stores

  SELINSGROVE — The Pennsylvania Liquor Control Board is moving two stores to new locations. Selinsgrove’s store will move from its current location on North Market Street to the Monroe Marketplace next to Michaels. The grand opening for the Selinsgrove location will be September 17, according to Stacy Kriedeman spokesperson for the PLCB. The Lewisburg store will be leaving downtown to move to the new Penn House Commons in East Buffalo Township. A letter-writing campaign by the Lewisburg Downtown Partnership failed to convince the PLCB to keep the store in Lewisburg. SELINSGROVE – Big upgrades are happening for Selinsgrove High School football this season. The Selinsgrove Area School District has a new scoreboard for its football stadium that will be ready for the team’s first home game September 11. The cost is $45,000. Concern over proposed cell tower in Selinsgrove

SELINSGROVE —  A proposal to install a cell phone tower in a residential neighborhood in Selinsgrove has raised some concern for residents. Horvath Communications is seeking a variance from the Selinsgrove Borough Zoning Hearing Board to place the tower near the Selinsgrove  Community Pool on Linda Lane.   Some residents say it’s an odd place to put it, and it’s not needed.  A special meeting is being held by the Borough Zoning Hearing Board Thursday at 7 p.m. to discuss the tower.  The public is invited to attend.  (Matt Catrillo) Follow

SELINSGROVE- Residents who packed the Selinsgrove Zoning Hearing Board meeting room Thursday night were left with many questions unanswered about a variance request for a controversial cellular telephone tower on Linda Lane. The Selinsgrove Zoning Hearing Board approved a delay request by Horvath Communications, who made the variance request. The case will now be heard at the next regularly scheduled meeting October 1. SELINSGROVE – Selinsgrove police are investigating another burglary. Sometime during the night of August 31, a theft occurred at a home in the 200 block of South High Street. Items taken included money, jewelry and electronics. Selinsgrove man pleads guilty to sexual assault

6SELINSGROVE – A Selinsgrove man has pleaded guilty to sexually assaulting a 15-year-old girl, who got pregnant from the assault.  The News Item reports 27-year-old Dustin Gearhart entered his guilty plea in Northumberland County Court on Friday and will be sentenced on a later date.   Gearhart was charged by Coal Township police with sexually assaulting the girl after the two went for a ride on April 3, 2014.  DNA testing was ordered and it was determined Gearhart was the father of the baby.  He faces state prison time when he is sentenced.  (Ali Stevens)   Follow

Selinsgrove man turns himself in months after robbery

SELINSGROVE – A Selinsgrove man turned himself in,more than four months after a robbery in Snyder County.  State police say 26-year-old Christopher Slaybaugh went to the state police barracks in Selinsgrove on Sunday and confessed to a robbery in the Susquehanna Valley Mall parking lot on April 27.   Troopers say Slaybaugh pushed his way into a truck that a woman was entering and started to leave the parking lot with the truck.  The woman from Sunbury was able to jump from the moving vehicle.  Slaybaugh then stopped the truck, got out and left the area in his own vehicle.  Slaybaugh is facing charges including robbery for the incident.  (Ali Stevens) Follow

Two arrests after DUI checkpoint in Snyder County

SELINSGROVE – Two people were arrested after a DUI checkpoint in Snyder County Friday night into Saturday morning.  State police say an 18-year-old from Chester Springs was arrested for possession of marijuana.  Also a 22-year-old woman from Selinsgrove was charged with DUI.   Several other motorists were cited for driving under suspension, expired driver’s licenses, an open container of alcohol and other moving violations.  State police from the Selinsgrove, Milton and Stonington barracks participated in the DUI checkpoint.  (Ali Stevens) Follow

Grand opening for new liquor store

    SELINSGROVE – The Pennsylvania Liquor Control Board is celebrating. They’re throwing a grand opening party at their new Snyder County location in the Monroe Marketplace today. The store opens at 11a.m. and the PLCB says they’ll have wine and spirits tasting starting and light hors d’oeuvres starting at noon. You must be over 21 to sample the merchandise. Penn Valley Airport hosting Air Show

SELINSGROVE – The Penn Valley Airport will host an Air Show Saturday in Selinsgrove.  The event will at the airport from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. featuring a car show, flying demonstrations and a special dedication to remember local residents killed in a recent plane crash.   There will be a dedication to Michael Apfelbaum, who was killed in a plane crash in North Carolina earlier this month, along with his wife and father-in-law.  Apfelbaum was a big supporter of the airport and a fly-by of aircraft will be done at the air show in honor of Apfelbaum.   Bruce Witkop is chairman of the Penn Valley Airport, “It’s a free air show.  It’s sponsored...

SELINSGROVE – The Selinsgrove community is coming together to support the victim of a hit-and-run accident. Katherine Blann was struck by a car June 12 and continues to recover from her injuries.   Two nights of live music and celebrity bartenders and servers are planned as fundraisers to help cover Blann’s expenses. Bots Tavern on Market Street in Selinsgrove will host the events.   Saturday, September 26 from 6 to 9 p.m., there will be love entertainment by  Blue River Spell, followed by Earl Pickens and Rick Buck. Selinsgrove man gets state prison for sexual assault

SUNBURY – A Selinsgrove man has been sentenced to state prison for statutory sexual assault.  27-year-old Dustin Gearhart was sentenced Monday to 18 to 36-months in state prison for the sexual assault of a 15-year-old girl.   Police say Gearhart assaulted the girl on April 3, 2014 in the Bear Valley area of Shamokin and the girl learned she was pregnant a few weeks after the assault.  A DNA test determined Gearhart was the father of child.  Gearhart pleaded guilty to statutory sexual assault earlier this year.  (Ali Stevens) Follow

More money donated to Selinsgrove 5th Grade Camp

MONROE TOWNSHIP – Monroe Township plans to increase the amount of money donated to Selinsgrove Area School District’s Fifth Grade Camp Fund. With 43 fifth grade students living in the township, supervisors agreed to donate $1,075, which is a major increase from the $200 donated last year.   This equates to about $25-per student in the Township.  The School District initially asked for $4,300.  Students participate in numerous fundraisers throughout the school year to offset the costs of 5th grade camp.  (Lauren Koch) Follow

Promoting animal welfare at Pet Wellness Expo

SELINSGROVE – A Pet Wellness Expo will be held this Saturday in Selinsgrove to help educate the public about animal welfare and adoption.  The event is hosted by The Educators Inc. and Companion Animal Hospital.
